Summer Of Colour 5 Week 5

This weeks colours are 2 shades of green and 1 pink.  I like this colour combination.  I've kept with the heart theme again but added another of my favourite elements - butterflies.  The heart was cut out of patterned scrapbook paper over which I applied one of the greens and some pink - you can just about see the pattern through the paint.  This was stuck onto the canvas with some gel medium.  The tiny butterflies are made using a punch and the large and medium ones are rubber stamps - I used some gelli print I had from a previous project.  To finish off I added some stickles glitter onto the butterflies.

Summer Of Colour 2015 Week 1 & 2

Last week saw the start of the Summer of colour challenge over at Twinkle, Twinkle blog.  Every week for the next 6 weeks the challenge is to use only the specified colours in our artwork.  Last week the colours we could use were 2 shades of blue and one of green - our choice of shade.  This week we have 2 pinks and one orange.  Last year I made random designs using the colours however this year I've decided to make a collection of 5 x 8 wrapped canvases using hearts and butterflies as the main design.

Week 1 - 2 blues 1 green (I still need to add some text)

"Be Fearless" Week 2 - 2 pinks 1 orange

What's On Your Work Desk? Wednesday 291

Well this is the last WOYWW for 2014.  I missed last weeks as I was ill (spent all of Christmas in bed) I had all good intentions of writing a very quick post but it just didn't happen.  To see what WOYWW is all about then pop over to see Julia she'll explain it all over at the Stamping Ground.

So what's on this weeks desk well I can't really share what's on my desk as it's for a magazine article.  I can however show you what I had left on the desk yesterday (and was still there this morning) so technically it still counts right?  This is another painting I started last week.  It's on a much bigger scale than the one I made in the 5x7 journal - very daunting to have all that white space staring at you.

Well that's it from me short and sweet.  I hope everyone has a wonderful New Years eve and brings in 2015 with a massive flurry of sparkle.

Stage 2 adding colour and details

The beginning- stage 1

Gelli prints from last week.  The bottom 2 right prints are on Daler Rowney cartridge paper - ghost/clean off pages they always seem to be my favourites.  The other prints are on fusible interfacing.  I used Stewart Gill textile paints.

Happy New Year

Finished Halloween Costume

Today I finished off the halloween costume for my niece - theme Corpse Bride.  I've sewn on the decapitated skeleton bones to the stenciled bones and they look great even if I say so myself.  I especially like the three skeleton hands on the bodice of the dress.  To finish the whole thing off I have to make a black bow and attach it to a headband.  I can't wait to see my niece in the dress complete with painted face.

Well here it is - let me know what you think.  Hopefully I will be sent a picture of my niece in full costume.

More Gelli Print Cards

Running late today as its the Hindu new year (2071) and we've had visitors and this is going to be a very short post.

So here are the last of my cards made with the Gelli prints I made this week.  This time I've added some bottle caps along with the rubber stamping.

Rubber stamped flowers with a flower head stamped and inserted into a bottle cap.

These I've left as abstract pieces.

On this one I stamped 3 images in black ink and then added the bottle caps with the stamped image of the flower heads in a blue/green colour.

It's Time for WOYWW 281

Or as it's also known as What's on your work desk? Wednesday - find out more at the Stamping Ground.

I've been playing with my gelli print again.  This time trying out the dark over light technique.  This involves allowing the paints to dry before adding the final dark colour prior to pulling the print.  I have to say I love this technique - I like being in control of the design and laying the design precisely as I want it.  on the desk there is scrap piece of thick tracing type paper which I salvaged from an envelope and I'm using to practice some designs and colour combinations.  You can also see perched on top of my pencils a fabric ATC (artist trading card) waiting to be finished off.

This is one of the prints I made using the dark over light technique.

These prints are just some normal prints  - the above 2 are on glossy card  which I've been told NOT to use as it will affect the gelli plate - lesson learnt.

These 2 were a couple of messing about prints just on copy paper which isn't ideal as it's too thin and goes wrinkly but that's okay they will get used in another project.

That's me for this Wednesdays WOYWW.  Do pop over to the Stamping Ground to see what everyone else has been up to.

Thank you to everyone who visits and leaves a comment on my posts.

Time For Tea

It's coming up to that time of the year when the masks come off and the broomsticks come out.  Of course I'm talking about Halloween whether you embrace it or not it seems to be getting bigger every year.  I'm all for having a good time..................or should that be a ghoul time hahahaha.

A member over on one of the artist trading card sites where I'm a member is hosting a trade/swap named "Odd Ball Ornaments".  The aim is to make unusual ornaments which can then be hung on your Christmas tree or around the house............really wherever your heart pleases.  I've had several ideas including altered skeletons, eyeballs etc.  One of them includes altering foam ghoul shapes.  I found some in a local pound shop they are light weight and having a blank canvas to work on is great.

I've used some spray inks, acrylics, stencils, rubber stamps, buttons and one of them even has some watch parts.

Spray inks and stenciled designs

The one on the left is completed and the other one I need to add some words.

Another Gelli Print- Dark over Light

Yesterday Gelli Arts released a tutorial for printing dark over light and it involved letting the paint dry before adding the final layer of black.  I'm loving playing with the gelli plate but I don't like rushing and pulling the print while the paint is still wet as I find you can't control the design as much as I'd like to.  The other thing I like about this new technique is that you can really build the design in stages and maybe a little bit more refined - maybe I just like being in control.

Anyway here is what I did this evening.  It's not very detailed as I didn't have much time but I did enjoy the process and next time I'll give myself more time to plan out the design.

Ha yes I do have a messy desk and not so much space to work in but I like it like that.

Gelli Prints

Day #13 of #blogtoberfest14

Gelli printing is the rage at the moment with the endless possibilities of creating unique one off background prints.  You can cut them up, to use in your art work, journaling pages, bookmarks, gift tags the list is endless. I used a mix of rubber stamps, cut out stencil block shapes, the owl greeting card which I bought from Paperchase and a cocktail stick. My paint of choice was Liquitex acrylic paints.

The top 2 prints are made on glossy photo paper and the larger pieces below are made on copy paper.

What's On Your Work Desk? Wednesday #279

Hello, hello and good afternoon on this rather grey but dry Wednesday.  I'm a tad late posting this weeks WOYWW post - want to know more about WOYWW or fancy joining in the fun then pop over the Stamping Ground where all will be revealed.

On my desk today are 2 shop bought cards............yes yes I know but these are so cute.  Well okay I'll let you into a secret I'm not actually going to send them to anyone.  I bought them to use as stencils!!! innovative or what eh?  Want to know where I got them from?  Ahhh heck okay I like to share and I'm nice like that hahaha - Paperchase yep good old Paperchase.  There were a few other designs but I opted for these two (for now) and at £2.50 each you can't grumble.  It's a nice weight so can easily get some good use from them.

Well that's me for today.  I'm going to link this to #blogtoberfest14 for day #8 of blogging - find out more here at Shells in the Bush

Journal Page - Cats

Well one cat - he's a funky purple and blue cat with odd eyes and stenciled trees.  He is in one of the traveling journals that I am collaborating on.  I got to play with some of my new larger sized stencils that I brought back from America back in August.  I hope he will be happy in his new home.

I seem to be doing okay up to now we're onto day 4 of #Blogtoberfest14 - 31 days of blogging.  Want to join in or know what it's all about then pop on over to Shells in the Bush

See you Sunday

A Nip and A Tuck WIP Blogtoberfest14 Day 3

A very quick post from me today.  This young lady just needs a little nip and tuck to finish her off.  I started her a couple of days ago and added the colour and stencil designs last night. She's coloured in with Neocolorll water soluble wax crayons and then stenciled with acrylic paints.  The background texture has been added with bubble wrap.

Want to know more about Blogtoberfest14 then pop over to Shells in the Bush and see who else is taking part.,

Travelling Journal

Phew what a busy week it's been.  I've had a day out just for me then a day out with some ladies for a networking lunch, Saturday I went to the Stitch and Craft Fair in Manchester and today I added my page to a travelling journal.

What is a travelling journal?  We are a group of ladies from all corners of the world (UK, USA, Germany) who are collaborating in each others journal.  The idea is to make a piece of art in each others journals by posting them to each other over a course of a couple of weeks - in an ideal world this would work perfectly but as we are reliant on our postal system to get the journals safely to their next destination it we have had a few hiccups along the way but this has added to the experience.

Our journals measure 5 x 7 inches everyone has sent a page to be worked on by each member of the group.  Some have made specific requests, some have given an idea of what they would like to have for example their favourite colours.  But the main focus is to put our own mark on the journal.

Here are some of the pages I've worked on.
