Day 7 of 30 Paintings in 30 Days

Day 7 of 30 paintings in 30 days. Thought i would add other features to give another view of the eyes and this time I've gone for a brown eye - think I prefer the blue/green of my previous eye studies.

Water colour Daler Rowney pan set with a touch of acrylic (black and white).

What's On Your Work Desk? Wednesday 292

It's Wednesday already I can't believe how quickly this week is going by.  I'm sure January is supposed to be a long month and the weeks drag by.  Oh well never mind here we are for another WOYWW #292.  Pop over to the Stamping Ground and I'm sure Julia will tell you all about it.

So what's on my desk this wet and cold Wednesday?  This is how I left my desk last night.  You can see the 2 eye studies I did in pan water colours (Daler Rowney) for the 30 paintings in 30 Days challenge hosted by Leslie at Slices of Life.  One of my goals for 2015 is to become friends with pan and tube water colours and also to study the facial features to help improve my face drawings.

Here are a close up of the eyes.  As you can see this eye is far too wide.

This one is much better and more in proportion.  I worked out that the white parts of the eye were approx half the width of the iris.  Of course I'm well aware that everyone has different size eyes.

Thank you for visiting and leaving the comments each one is read and replied to.

30 Paintings In 30 Days - Day 6

I'm trying to perfect drawing facial features and get the proportions correct. I know every face is different but things like the eyes surely they are the same in every feature.  Studying my face in the mirror I noticed that the whites of the eye were half the width of the iris and that there was no white parts under the iris.  Today's eye study I measured/calculated the distance and I think it looks better than yesterdays study.  I'm still trying to loosen up painting with water colours.

This was day 5 eye study

Day 6  - measured/calculated the whites of the eye against the iris.

Day 4 & 5 or 30 Paintings in 30 Days January 2015

I didn't get time to make anything for day 4 as we had visitors and by the time they went it was late and it had gone dark.  Therefore I made 2 paintings today.  Well one is a mixed media painting in my altered book and the other is a study of an eye in watercolours - Daler Rowney pan set.  One of my goals for 2015 is to master pan and tube watercolours.

Practice, Practice and Practice Some More

Following on from my post yesterday (WOYWW) I have had another play with the acrylic inks.  I think I'm getting the hang of them.  I've found that if I let the inks dry before adding more it works better.  The other thing I've found is that the colour looks different once it's dried and that I can layer the inks much better than trying to do it while wet.

I toned down yesterdays painted face with white acrylic paint (tube not ink) so it doesn't look yellow.  I think it looks much better.  I'm still practicing the facial features and trying to get the shading correct.  I'm pretty pleased with the rough pencil sketch and shading I've done in the top right hand corner.

Well I'm off to do some more practicing- catch you later.

3 Eyed Green Monster

Since the 29 Faces Challenge finished I've had a bit of a withdrawal week or 2.  However I've joined in with a daily drawing thread over on ATCsForAll and this weeks challenge is to draw Halloween monsters or Autumn scenery.  The challenge starts on a Thursday so we have the weekend to draw something.  There are no prizes and you don't have to draw everyday.  It's a group of people who want to practice their drawing skills, get feedback and generally get support and encouragement and most importantly have FUN.

For my card I drew (or attempted to) a monster but I think it's more of a cute monster than a scary monster.  Its painted with Polychromo pencils with a hint of white acrylic paint.  The background was coloured using Pro-markers.

Here's my monster with her 3 Eyes.

Have a great weekend
